New Nintendo Labo Kit Introduces Shareable, Simple VR Gaming Experiences

Nintendo Labo: VR Kit is a Unique First VR Experience Kids and Families Can Build Themselves

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Experience a new dimension of Nintendo Labo with the launch of the Nintendo Labo: VR Kiton April 12, which combines the innovative physical and digital gameplay of Nintendo Labo with basic VR technology* to create a simple and shareable virtual reality experience for kids and families. Nintendo Labo: VR Kit is the fourth kit in the Nintendo Labo series, providing the tools to make DIY cardboard creations called Toy-Con; play a variety of games with these creations; and discover how Nintendo Switch technology brings it all to life.

Nintendo Labo: VR Kit offers six new Toy-Con creations to build, including the Toy-Con VR Goggles, which combine with the other creations to allow players to interact with the virtual world through imaginative real-world actions. Fend off an alien invasion with the Toy-Con Blaster, visit a colorful in-game ocean and snap photos of the sea life with the Toy-Con Camera and so much more.

Nintendo Labo: VR Kit encourages passing around the Toy-Con creations among a group of people so everyone in the room can easily join in on the fun. To help encourage this social gameplay, players simply slip the Nintendo Switch console into the Toy-Con VR Goggles and hold it up to their eyes to explore numerous games and experiences – no head strap needed.

“This new kit builds on the core tenets of Nintendo Labo – Make, Play and Discover – to introduce virtual reality in a way that’s fun and approachable for both kids and kids at heart,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We wanted to design an experience that encourages both virtual and real-world interactions among players through passing around Toy-Con creations.”

Nintendo Labo: VR Kit will launch in retail stores with two primary configurations, one that includes all Toy-Con creations and one that includes a smaller selection of projects to get started:

  • Nintendo Labo: VR Kit:

Available at a suggested retail price of $79.99, the complete Nintendo Labo: VR Kit includes the Nintendo Switch software and materials to build all six Toy-Con projects – the Toy-Con VR Goggles, Toy-Con Blaster, Toy-Con Camera, Toy-Con Bird, Toy-Con Wind Pedal and Toy-Con Elephant – as well as a Screen Holder and Safety Cap. It’s a good option for kids and families who want to dive in to the full experience.

  • Nintendo Labo: VR Kit – Starter Set + Blaster:

Available at a suggested retail price of only $39.99, the Starter Set includes the Nintendo Switch software, plus all the components to build the Toy-Con VR Goggles and Toy-Con Blaster, as well as the Screen Holder and Safety Cap. The Starter Set is a great entry point into the world of Nintendo Labo VR.

3D Photos Now Rolling out on Facebook and in VR

4.jpg

Today we’re starting to roll out 3D photos, a new way to share your memories and moments in time with a fun, lifelike dimension in both News Feed and VR. With technology that captures the distance between the subject in the foreground and the background, 3D photos bring scenes to life with depth and movement.

Whether it’s a shot of your pet, your friends, or a beautiful spot from your latest vacation, you just take a photo in Portrait mode using your compatible dual-lens smartphone, then share as a 3D photo on Facebook where you can scroll, pan and tilt to see the photo in realistic 3D—like you’re looking through a window. You can also view 3D photos in VR using the Oculus Browser on Oculus Go or Firefox on Oculus Rift. Everyone will be able to see 3D photos in News Feed and VR today, while the ability to create and share 3D photos begins to roll out today and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.

3D photos can help you feel even closer to the people, places and things you share on Facebook and relive your memories in a way that feels more real. Here’s how to do it:

Plus, here are some tips and tricks for becoming a 3D photo pro and selecting the scenes that will pop in 3D:

Facebook Video 2

1. Create layers.
3D Photos use the depth maps that are stored with “Portrait” photos taken on iPhone 7+, 8+, X or XS. You’ll get the best results if your main subject is three or four feet away, and to really make it pop, try to capture scenes with multiple layers of depth, including something in the foreground and something in the background—like a shot of your family standing in a field of flowers.

2. Keep contrast in mind.
You’ll get more of the 3D effect when your photo’s subject has contrasting colors—for example, someone wearing a blue shirt standing in front of a blue wall won’t pop as much as someone wearing a different color.

3. Use texture.
Some materials and subjects make better 3D photos than others. You’ll get the best results from subjects that have some texture to them, have solid edges, and aren’t too shiny. Try to avoid transparent objects like clear plastic or glass, as they aren’t always accurately captured by depth sensors.

We’re listening to feedback on this new format as we continue rolling it out to everyone. We hope it will help you share your moments in a new way — and we can’t wait to see what you’ll create!

Oasis Games Releases Its Third PS VR Launch Window Title,

    Perfect for Spooky Halloween Gaming

    BEIJING – (October 27, 2016)

    – Oasis Games Ltd, a leading independent Chinese publisher, today announced it has released Weeping Doll, its third PlayStation®VR launch title in as many weeks. The adventure game is a dark, story-driven psychological mystery where dolls come alive, fueled by the negative thoughts of their child owners. Players must solve difficult puzzles in eerie surroundings as a tortured girl’s doll takes revenge on her parents—and things only get scarier from there!

Weeping Doll arrives just in time for Halloween to bring a spooky psychological adventure to PlayStation VR gamers looking for a touch of the macabre,” said Alen Wu, business director at Oasis Games. “Step into a mansion filled with hidden tragedies and discover a story that unfolds as you solve its ghostly secrets.”

In the game, players will explore environments from the first-person view of a maid as they slowly uncover the unnatural truths inside the walls of a Japanese family’s Victorian-style house. By projecting their maid avatar in discrete steps to whatever spot they want to explore, adventure gamers bypass any potential VR-induced discomfort while still enjoying full freedom of movement. Every object and every sound plays a pivotal role in solving the mystery of what happened to the family, so players will need to explore the mansion carefully. Players with a curious mind will be provoked by challenging puzzles of all different sorts as they unravel the dark secrets of the family’s past. Weeping Doll, which is developed using the Unreal 4 Engine, provides an immersive and chilling adventure that will send shivers down your spine—get ready to enter the mansion and face your fears!

Weeping Doll is developed by TianShe Media and is published by Oasis Games in North America, Europe and Asia for the PlayStation®VR.
