Avengers Age of Ultron Review

Avengers Age of Ultron : Review

Review Written By: Adolph Vega

3D

Sadly this movie doesn’t present its 3D element in an interesting fashion, and for the most part the 3D is forgettable. Clearly the film producers had no vision for making this movie shine in 3D and only a few key scenes use the 3D effectively. These few quality 3D scenes are the epic action set pieces. The 3d pops out and gives you nice depth as you watch these action scenes and debris flying around in 3D. Most of the movie you can clearly see if one character is behind or in front of another, but it’s not a compelling use of 3D. Maybe 30% of film has fun action scenes with worthwhile 3D, but the vast majority of the time the 3D is not interesting, pronounced and is barely noticeable.

Final Verdict: Terrible 3D

Movie:

Avengers Age of Ultron is the twelfth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second Avengers movie. This film is both self contained and remembers all the story aspects from the previous Marvel films. This film revolves around an evil robot named Ultron who wants to destroy humanity. Ultron has two super powered humans helping him in this evil plot. Being a sequel of a well-established franchise the characters feel very comfortable with each other and have great chemistry together on screen. Many of the action scenes have the characters working together in fun and interesting ways and a clear friendly bond is visible. It's not all friendly, as one romantic subplot exists within the movie between two major characters. I thought this subplot was unexpected because at no time in the previous movies does this relationship seem to have any foreshadowing and is only present within this film. It’s a strange inclusion to have a love story within this movie but overall I feel that it was handled well and gives the storyline a nice human touch. The movie has a fantastic sense of humor, which perfectly balances out the darker tones it sometimes showcases. The action scenes are very well executed, and the comedy works extremely well and the movie’s overall pacing is tight. Occasionally the movie slows down to give the viewer more depth to the characters and plot. Much of the character development is focused on characters that haven't had a chance to shine until now and I really appreciate some characters getting backstory where they didn’t have any before. The movie introduces several new characters that are interesting and likeable. I do wish the new characters were given more screen time because they are so good that it leaves me wanting more. One character in particular I wanted more screen time was the villain Ultron. I liked the character of Ultron and loved the voice actor portraying him, but his presence within the movie is very limited, and often the movie focuses on what he has done instead of who/what Ultron is in the bigger scope of the movie. I believe this film has several continuity issues that conflict with the other previously released marvel films. I cannot specific these issues without ruining several major aspects of this film and other recent Marvel movies. Suffice to say several plot points within this movie left me confused to why they were happening, as it didn't make sense within the context of the larger marvel cinematic universe. I also wish this movie had more adult themes and broader narrative than the typical save the world storyline. Overall the issues I have with the movie are minor and I found myself extremely entertained and I highly recommend this movie and found it a very enjoyable film.

Final Score: 9/10
