3D OR 2D Movie Club 3 - Updated with Results

We are back for a third 3Dor2D Movie Club podcast. What movie should the Editorial team at 3Dor2D.com watch and talk about on the podcast ? This eventual podcast will have spoilers. So what movie do you want us to watch and talk about on the podcast ? Please vote ! Whatever movie is the winner will be watched and talked about on the podcast by the editorial team. If a tie somehow happens the patrons on Patreon will break the tie, however this time we are doing ranked choice voting so a tie is extremely unlikely to happen. We will announce a winner on the podcast and on the website at the end of the voting period. Voting period starts today August 1st and ends August 8th. You can vote quickly, safely and easily from your home or even on your phone. Sony And Marvel finally reveal the teaser trailer to Spider-Man No Way Home

“ For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters on December 17th 2021.

Currently we are assuming that Spider-Man No Way Home will be a 3D release. This is because the last few Spider-Man movies were released in 3D. Marvel and Sony also have a great track record with releasing their movies in 3D.

Hotel Transylvania 4 Transformania to skip theatrical run and go exclusively to Amazon Prime

Yesterday Variety reported the following:

Sony Pictures Animation and Amazon are nearing deal for over $100 million for the animated feature “Hotel Transylvania: Transformania” to stream globally on Amazon Prime Video, Variety has learned exclusively.

Something else to note in the article:

Sony will retain rights to home entertainment, linear TV and Chinese exhibition, according to a source with knowledge of the deal. - Variety

So maybe it will get a 3D Chinese theatrical release. Maybe we will get a 3D Blu-ray but that is up to Sony. The previous Hotel Transylvania movie “ Summer vacation “ never got a 3D Blu-ray release so it is likely that this will follow suit and not get a 3D blu-ray release . Amazon prime video is available worldwide and doesn’t stream in 3D. It might appear on Vudu like how the previous movie ‘ Summer vacation ’ got a digital release . 3D was not mentioned in any of the previous trailers or movie poster (see above) so I wonder if the movie was even converted into 3D:

Just to recap:

  • No Theatrical release for Hotel Transylvania 4 Transformania

  • Hotel Transylvania 4 Transformania will release on Amazon Prime Video

  • 3D Blu-ray release for Hotel Transylvania 4 Transformania is very unlikely

  • It is plausible that Hotel Transylvania 4 Transformania might release in 3D on Vudu

  • Hotel Transylvania 4 Transformania may get a 3D theatrical release in China

In closing it looks like Hotel Transylvania 4 Transformania is not going to get a 3D release and it will probably be 2D only. We shall see how this story develops in the future. I imagine that other animated movies aimed for children may consider a digital release as the covid-19 pandemic continues.
