 A New Independent Game Launches Every Week on Nintendo Platforms

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- As Nintendo prepares to show off a number of cool indie games at PAX West in Seattle, the video game maker is making sure that game lovers all across the country can get in on the action from afar: The esteemed “Nindie” community has come together to put the spotlight on independent games in Nintendo eShop on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Every Thursday in September, a new digital release will hit Nintendo eShop for Wii U, Nintendo 3DS or both at an introductory pricing promotion of 10 percent off during the first week of launch. Additionally, the featured developers will share video stories about their projects’ development in Nintendo eShop. The featured developers will also curate a shelf in Nintendo eShop highlighting some of their favorite games.

The release schedule is as follows:

Sept. 1
Axiom Verge from Thomas Happ Games – In this retro-style action-platform-exploration game, use the Wii U GamePad as your map, a way to easily swap between weapons or for Off-TV Play. A failed scientist dies in an accident, only to awaken in a mysterious, alien world. Where is he? How did he get here? And why do the fundamental laws of reality appear broken? Life. Afterlife. Real. Sept. 8
Jotun: Valhalla Edition from Thunder Lotus Games – Jotun is a hand-drawn action-exploration game set in Norse mythology. In Jotun, you play Thora, a Norse warrior who died an inglorious death and must prove herself to the Gods to enter Valhalla. Jotun: Valhalla Edition features Valhalla Mode, a boss rush mode with even fiercer versions of the already challenging jotun. Exclusive to the Wii U version, the map is always displayed on the GamePad and God Powers can be activated using the touch screen. The game launches on Wii U first, and its GamePad features make this the definitive version. Impress the Gods!

Sept. 15
Noitu Love: Devolution from MP2 Games – The year is 2288. The city is protected by an organization called “The Peacekeepers League” and everything is swell except that it’s under attack by a robot army lead by professor Darnacus Damnation! Or is it... ? Available on both Wii U and Nintendo 3DSwith intuitive, touch-screen controlled gameplay.

Sept. 22
Severed from Drinkbox Studios – Take control of a one-armed warrior named Sasha, who wields a living sword on her journey through a nightmare world in search of her family. Available on Wii U. Sept. 30
Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 from INTI CREATES – Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 is a 2D action-platforming game in the style of the Japanese classics of yesteryear. The great controls, crisp graphics, unique play mechanics and epic boss battles from the first installment are all here, along with a host of new features. Available exclusively on Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo Features Upcoming Indie Games at Event

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- As PAX West rapidly approaches, Nintendo has a lineup featuring RPGs, indie games and lots of fun. The video game show, which runs Sept. 2-5 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, gives fans a chance to check out a variety of new and upcoming content on Nintendo platforms for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo will have two booths, one featuring activities with Pokémon Sunand Pokémon Moon, as well as playable games like Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past and YO-KAI WATCH 2 and another booth dedicated to our talented Nindie partners showcasing awesome first playable experiences such as Punch Club (tiny Build Games), Runbow Pocket (13AM Games), Severed (Drinkbox Studios) and World to the West (Rain Games).

The event is free and open to the public and will give people a chance to sample both first playable and anticipated video games from our Nindie community. Playable games include Axiom Verge (Thomas Happ Games), Jotun: Valhalla Edition (Thunder Lotus Games), Shantae Half-Genie Hero (WayForward/XSEED), Severed (Drinkbox Studios), World to the West (Rain Games), FAST Racing NEO – NEO Future Pack (Shin’en) and SteamWorld Heist (Image & Form) for the Wii Uconsole, and Runbow Pocket (13AM Games), Punch Club(tiny Build Games), Severed (Drinkbox Studios), Azure Striker GUNVOLT 2 (INTI CREATES), Noitu Love: Devolution (MP2 Games) and Gurumin: A Monsterous Adventure (Mastiff) for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Attendees will also have the chance to snag some giveaways and prizes, while supplies last. Additionally, all attendees will have access to EMP’s Indie Game Revolution exhibit, which includes newly installed titles from the Nintendo independent community. The Nindies@Night event takes place 8 p.m.-midnight on Sept. 1 at the EMP Museum, 325 Fifth Ave. N in Seattle.
  • Indie Lounge at PAX West: For anyone who wasn’t able to make it to the Nindies@Night event, we are bringing the same playable Nindie content to PAX West in the convention center on the sixth floor in Room 612. Developers will be there to demonstrate their games and answer questions, and giveaway free swag. Indie Lounge hours are noon-9 p.m. Friday to Sunday, and noon-6 p.m. on Monday.
  • Nintendo’s Booth: PAX West attendees can swing by the Nintendo booth (South Hall, Booth No. 2335) to check out a variety of fun games and products. In addition to a number of fun activities themed to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, Nintendo plans to have playable versions ofthe Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Pastand YO-KAI WATCH 2 games on hand. Additionally, visitors can check out cool displays of amiibo figures and the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Editionhardware, which launches Nov. 11.
  • Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Photo Experience:A photo booth will be set up at the Nintendo booth for fans to take some fun photos with two legendary Pokémon and Pokémon trainers. Additionally, fans who pre-order Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon onsite will receive a collectable gift.

Nintendo 3DS was best selling video game console for July 2016

Nintendo News: Pokémon Mania Helps Drive Nintendo 3DS to No. 1

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Nintendo 3DS platform finished July atop the hardware and software sales charts according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the U.S. The strong performance is in part thanks to the release of the Monster Hunter Generations game, continued momentum from the price drop of the Nintendo 2DS system and widespread positive public reception for the Pokémon GO mobile app, which has renewed interest in core Pokémon games on Nintendo systems. Additionally:

  • The Nintendo 3DS family of systems sold nearly 80 percent more units this July compared to the same time period a year ago, and finished as the overall best-selling video game system in July. On the software side, Capcom’s Monster Hunter Generations emerged as the best-selling game for any system.
  • July sales of the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire games for Nintendo 3DS were over 80 percent higher than July 2015. The games launched in November 2014.
  • July sales of the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games for Nintendo 3DS were almost 200 percent higher than a year ago. The games launched in October 2013 and finished No. 16 and No. 22 on July’s best-sellers list, respectively.
  • Games playable on Nintendo systems claimed five of the top 11 spots on the July best-sellers list. These include Monster Hunter Generations from Capcom at No. 1, Minecraft: Wii U Edition from Microsoft at No. 6, Pokémon Omega Ruby at No. 8, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire at No. 10 and Kirby: Planet Robobot at No. 11.
  • The Nintendo 2DS system has crossed the 2 million lifetime sales mark in the U.S.
