Mad Max Fury Road Review

Mad Max: Fury Road

Review Written By: Adolph Vega

3D

At one point in the movie the 3D effect was so masterfully executed I heard a few people in the audience clapping in approval, and I was one of those people.  That was only one incredible scene, but overall the movie does a fantastic job with the 3D element, which immerses you into the movie.  The movie looks very sharp in 3D and the 3D depth is used well in many of the scenes to give the viewer a better understanding of distance and scale.  The 3D pop out is also handled well with debris and characters almost jumping out of the screen.  The 3D in this movie is fantastic and gave me a real sense of immersion and made the various action scenes more fun and enjoyable and really brought me into this futuristic apocalypse desert world, if you are planning on watching this movie you need to watch it in 3D.

Final Verdict: Great 3D

Movie:

This is the first Mad Max movie that I have ever seen.  I am knowledgeable of the Mad Max series but until this point I have never sat down and watched a film within the franchise.  The movie is set in a post-apocalyptic world where gasoline and water has become a rare commodity and the earth is now a barren wasteland. Humanity has been turned into savages ruled by an oppressive dictator and everyone is only trying to survive day by day within this harsh world.  The story revolves around the main character Mad Max as he joins a group of women who want to escape from this oppressive regime.  The movie is essentially one long chase scene between Mad Max and the group of women with the evil dictator chasing them.  This movie is packed with extremely violent action scenes from beginning to end. This movie has a frantic fast pace and never slows down for very long.  Every aspect of this movie is extreme, which includes the acting, which is cheesy, over the top but enjoyable.  The action scenes within Mad Max Fury Road are wonderfully choreographed in their brutality.  The mayhem on screen makes for a very extreme and entertaining spectacle.  This movie only gives the viewer a tiny amount of dialog and backstory. The character Mad Max has many flashbacks and visions within the movie that are never fully explained.  Are these flashbacks and visions references to the prior movies? I don't have a clue, but I wish they visions were given some context as I was totally lost.  The movie has two false endings because it refuses to end and drags on for a little too long.  One story element I found perplexing was the inconsistency with the distance the characters traveled regarding the amount of time it took to drive from one place to another.  Mad Max Fury Road is the ultimate high budget action movie but it has no depth, no character development, and the plot is just excuses for crazy over the top action sequences.
