Avengers Infinity War 3D Movie Review

3D

Simply put “Avengers Infinity War” looks fabulous in 3D. I watched this movie in IMAX 3D and I was blown away. The 3D in this movie looks incredibly crisp and bright. This movie was made for 3D. Dozens of scenes use pop out 3D in fun ways. Several scenes use 3D depth for a greater sense of scale. The 3D in this movie is not perfect and has some minor issues. A few scenes are darkly lit, and 3D and darker scenes don’t work well together.  These scenes are few and far between so it doesn’t sour this overall excellent 3D presentation . The 3D usage is especially fascinating in the final scenes of the movie. I can’t really discuss this without massive spoilers, but needless to say I was both stunned and impressed. The 3D element of  “Avengers Infinity War” doesn’t feel like an after thought. The 3D and the story elements of “Avengers Infinity War” go hand in hand for an unforgettable cinematic 3D experience. I applaud the brilliant use of 3D visuals within this film . I don’t want to see this movie in 2D. I strongly suggest experiencing this movie in IMAX 3D. This movie was shot entirely with digital IMAX cameras so watching this in a IMAX theater is ideal. Overall this is a MUST WATCH IN 3D movie, and I shall give it my highest recommendation.

Final Verdict: Great 3D , Editors Choice 3D Award

Movie

“Avengers Infinity War” is the amazing capstone of nearly 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I walked into the movie theater with the highest expectations, and I left the movie theater stunned and shook to my core. Wow this movie is epic. I was worried that no movie could manage such a huge cast, and this movie feels perfectly balanced and gives everyone meaningful screen time and lines. Thanos is the villain of this movie and he is perfectly executed by Josh Brolin. The motivations for Thanos are clearly presented and his arguments are both interesting and well conceived. Thanos is a strong villain because of his abilities and for his presence on screen. Thanos is the greatest Marvel Cinematic Universe villain. This movie has it all. This movie has an excellent comedic element. The movie has heart and many touching performances and scenes. The movie knows when to slow down and have excellent character scenes. The  movie has amazing action set pieces that are truly epic. The action choreography is simply incredible. The superb fight scenes are second to none and are breathtaking and exciting to watch. This movie is extremely entertaining and is a pure delight. This movie is truly something special and Marvel has done it again. This movie not only lives up to the hype, but it exceeds it. The stakes are extremely high in this movie and I loved the many bold choices that were made in this movie. That being said the movie leaves the audience with many obvious questions and unresolved issues. It doesn’t bother me because I feel like they completed the story that was presented. I want to see this movie again and again. It left me wanting more and I am confident that future Marvel movies will deal with the aftermath from this movie.  The movie does an excellent job of being semi self contained and building upon the previous Marvel movies. Ultimately this movie feels both satisfying and earned and is the perfect accumulation of the entire Marvel Cinematic movie Universe. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, and I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end as I watched “Avengers Infinity War” . This movie is the best Marvel movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and boldly pushes the franchise forward in interesting and compelling ways. I could not have asked for or wanted a better movie than “Avengers Infinity war”. This is one of the most amazing movies that I have seen in years; in fact this might be one of my favorite movies of all time. “Avengers Infinity War” is the most ambitious movie of all time and it completely succeeds in every regard. “Avengers Infinity War” might be the greatest & most entertaining movie of all time. With the highest praise that I can possibly give, I must give this movie a perfect score. “Avengers Infinity War” is one the greatest achievements in the history of cinema, and I applaud Disney for making such a marvelous movie.

Final Verdict: 10/10 , Editors Choice Movie Award

Rampage 3D Movie Review

Rampage

3D Movie Review

Written By: Jake Jarvis

3D

Rampage is the third 3D movie Brad Peyton and Dwayne Johnson have made together. “Journey 2” and “San Andreas” were the other two. The 3D in Rampage isn't as good as “San Andres”, but definitely is an improvement over the weaker “Journey 2”. That being said Rampage does a nice job showcasing the 3D element. Rampage has many lovely depth shots. A scene within the bamboo forest is a real stand out scene because of the 3D. The movie has several in your face 3D effects that mostly work. The three monsters looked great in 3D. The scene where the wolf attacks a helicopter was particularly good in 3D. All in all I enjoyed the 3D aspect of this movie and I can recommend it.

Final Verdict: Good 3D

Movie

Rampage is the most expensive “ SyFy ” movie that I have ever seen. This movie is dumb, but it doesn't insult your intelligence. This film is based on the 1980’s video game of the same name. Rampage is a strangely faithful adaption of the video game famous for not really having a story to begin with. The movie includes many cool references from the video game, including Larry the rat and the infamous red dress. Does this movie reverse the awful video game movie curse? Not really, but if you enjoyed the various Rampage video games, you're probably going to dig this film adaption. Story wise, Rampage is focused on a bromance between George the albino gorilla and primatologist, Davis Okoyo (Dwayne Johnson). When George is infected with genes edited via CRISPR, he grows larger and becomes dramatically more aggressive. The gene editing impacts two other animals; a wolf, (named Ralph by internet weirdoes) and a crocodile (who is referred to as a gator a few times in this movie), which is unnamed in the film, but is called Lizzie in the video game. Lizzie is essentially a Godzilla clone, but I digress... All three animals go to Chicago and, well go, on a Rampage. Davis is determined to save his friend George from winding up like Harambe a.k.a. the King Kong treatment. Davis knows that George isn’t a bad ape and that only he can help him. Naomie Harris, who plays former Wyden geneticist, Dr. Kate Caldell, supports Davis on this adventure. She really sells the science dialogue. Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Harvey Russell a government agent of the OGA, (Other Government Agency). He's part Tommy Lee Jones in “The Fugitive” and part Negan from “The Walking Dead”.  Harvey has great on scene chemistry with Davis. Hopefully these two make more movies together in the future, because I enjoy there back and forth within this movie. This is one of the most violent PG-13 movies in recent memory and it is a little raunchy. So think twice about letting the little kiddoes see this movie. Joe Manganiello “True Blood” has a small part as Burke, a mercenary hunter. He's in a great call back scene to "Alien".  Overall "Rampage" is not a great movie or anything really special but I was able to enjoy myself and have a good time.

Final Verdict: 7/10

Ready Player One 3D Movie Review

Ready Player One

3D Movie Review

Written By:  Adolph Vega

3D

Sadly the 3D visuals are wildly inconsistent within this movie. The movie is split with scenes in the real world (live action) and scenes in the virtual world (digitally animated). The scenes filmed in the real world look awful in 3D. The 3D element is hardily noticeable in the real world scenes. On the flip side many scenes within the virtual world have nice enjoyable 3D. The movie frequently cuts between real world and virtual world scenes, and this can be jarring to see. I was never wowed by the 3D visuals within this movie. That being said the 3D really shines during the thrilling racing scene. 3D enhanced the sense of place, distance and speed during this epic scene. The 3D made a exciting scene better because it enhanced the excellent visuals and made the viewer feel like they are in the scene. I believe the lack of 3D in the real world scenes is intentional and is meant to make the real world look significantly worse than the virtual world. The 3D visuals within “Ready Player One”  are both intriguing and infuriating. When the movie was in 3D I enjoyed it, but it can be a very frustrating movie going experience because of the constant back and forth. I can only slightly recommend the 3D element of this film.

Final Verdict: Good 3D

Movie

“Ready Player One” takes the ideas presented in the 2011 novel by Ernest Cline and builds a full length feature film around it. I have not read the  book this movie is based upon, so this review is from the perspective of someone who has no knowledge of the original source material. Fortunately this movie is a self-contained so no prior knowledge is needed to enjoy this movie.

“Ready Player One” takes place in the near future of 2045. In 2045 Virtual Reality has become a mainstream element of popular culture. Unfortunately 2045 is not a great time period to live in. The dystopian world of 2045 is polluted, poverty-stricken, and overall is very depressing. The vast majority of people are driven to escape from the miserable real world into the more pleasant virtual world of “The Oasis”. Within “The Oasis” you can essentially do and be whatever want. One of the creators of “The Oasis” has left his vast fortune and control of the game to a lucky player who can decipher his clues and acquire the three hidden keys within the game. The plot of this movie is essentially one huge treasure hunt within the virtual world. In many ways the plot of “Ready Player One” reminds me a video game. Usually this would be a negative, but in this regard it’s a huge compliment because it makes the movie feel more authentic. The antagonist of the movie is the evil I0I Corporation. This corporation wants to take over the virtual world of “The Oasis” and make it more commercial and claim the prize money to make itself richer and more powerful. The head of the I0I Corporation is Nolan Sorrento. Sadly Nolan is a one-dimensional mustache-twirling villain and has no real depth. Wade Watts plays the main protagonist of this story. Wade is a strange character because he is both the narrator and the main character within this movie.  It’s kind of odd for him to have this dual role, because it’s unclear to whom he is talking to when he delivers exposition to the audience. Wade is joined on this quest with a small group of eccentric friends. Wade and his friends must work together to discover the secrets of “The Oasis”. Can Wade and his friends stop the evil I0I Corporation from taking over “The Oasis”? Overall the plot of “Ready Player One” flows well and has a compelling interesting narrative.

“Ready Player One” is a celebration of pop culture from the 1980’s, 1990’s, and early 2000’s. I haven’t seen a movie with so many references to pop culture since “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”. It’s impressive to see so many well-known characters and references within one movie. The pop culture element is especially strange since it really focuses on pop culture from the 1980’s and 1990’s but takes place in 2045. This is obviously meant to pander to the current audience watching the movie (in 2018), but it’s perplexing to why characters from the future would be so connected to things from our recent past. Shouldn’t they be nostalgic to things from their recent past, which would be our current time (2010’s) or our upcoming future (2020’s / 2030’s)?  This is essentially like teenagers today (2018) being obsessed with pop culture from the 1950’s and 1960’s. The use of nostalgia in this movie is sometimes perplexing when you think about it.  The movie does have its own story and characters so it’s not totally dependent on nostalgia. Nostalgia has always been part of the human experience and I don’t expect that to dramatically change in the future. Nostalgia is also very prevalent during bad times as people look backwards for a “better more simpler times” and considering how dismal this future world seems to be it makes sense within the context of the story. Since anything can happen in “The Oasis” it also makes sense that copyright laws wouldn’t be able to catch up. I have some mixed feelings about how this movie handles nostalgia, but overall I liked it and at least it makes sense within the context of the story.

The movie does have several minor problems. It’s left unclear how “The Oasis” is profitable. What exactly happened to cause the future to be this awful? Wades various friends are sadly underdeveloped. The main villain (Nolan Sorrento) of the movie is corny and overly simplistic. The one romantic relationship within the movie feels rushed and tacked on. A few plot points were just too convenient to be believable. Some of the actors act wooden and have bland performances. The use of cursive adult language at times feels unnecessary for this movie. The issues I have with this movie are minor , but they didn’t dramatically hurt my enjoyment of the movie.

Simply put “Ready Player One” is one fun flick. I liked the characters, the story and the message it has to offer. This is both a journey into the endless world of virtual reality and a journey of personal self-discovery. The movie is both fun and smart with a poignant relevant social commentary. The deeper message is never heavy handed and it works well within the movie. This narrative depth might be lost on younger viewers, but older viewers will appreciate the message this movie delivers.

“Ready Player One” is a great movie. I left the movie theater with one huge grin on my face and an empty tub of popcorn. The movie has its issues, but overall I was able to overlook all the minor things and still have a great time. Stephen Spielberg can still deliver a fun blockbuster even after all these years.

Final Verdict: 8/10
