The Bad Guys 3D Movie Review

The Bad Guys 3D Movie Review

3D

The 3D in The Bad Guys is enjoyable, just like most other CGI animated movies. The 3D looks good with lots of cool angles in scenes with lots of depth. Unfortunately, the film doesn’t have any real 3D pop outs. There are some spectacular scenes, especially a few of the car chase scenes, but they would be spectacular in 2D as well. The excellent animation drives the visual interest, not the stereoscopic 3D visuals. It's good 3D, with lots of depth, and it will satisfy your 3D itch. There's just not any gosh-wow pop out moments that would make this a must see in 3D. The 3D is worthwhile and is well executed, but it could have been better and more pronounced.

Final Verdict: Good 3D

Movie

The Bad Guys is a Dreamworks animated film based on a great series of kids books of the same name. The story of The Bad Guys is fairly straightforward yet it has plenty of surprises and is deeper than it appears to be in the trailers.

The Bad Guys is the tale of anthropomorphic talking animals who are the “ bad guys”. This crew consists of a wolf , snake , spider , shark and a piranha. Each of these characters have a key attribute and a distinct personality. They are bad guys because that is what is excepted from them for their species. One day during a heist the wolf gets a compliment and he has an epiphany. Maybe he doesn’t want to be a bad guy anymore, maybe he can get more out of life from doing good deeds than crime. Mr. Wolf gets a second chance to go straight; but does he take that chance seriously or is it an excuse for a bigger heist? Is it possible for to reform a bad guy ? Your typical animated hijinks in-sue in this movie, and saying anymore would be spoiling the fun. The movie feels more like an Illumination film than a Dreamworks animated film, but that's not a bad thing. The Bad Guys has the same vibe as the first Despicable Me movie, except no minions. This is the best caper film I have ever seen geared for young adults and I am so here for it. It's charming, witty, and pretty smart. The voice acting is fantastic and the movie flows well. Sure, adults who have seen Ocean's 11, and countless other caper films, will figure out many of the twists beforehand, but that won't hinder your enjoyment one bit. This movie was a lot of fun and I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel. FYI please wait around for the mid credits scene that is very enjoyable. The Bad Guys surprised me and I enjoyed it more than I thought that I would.

In closing The Bad Guys is a fun animated movie that the entire family can enjoy. DreamWorks has really outdone itself with this delightful beautifully animated movie.

Final Verdict: 8/10

Abominable 3D Movie Review

Abominable 3D Movie Review

Written By: Jake Jarvis

3D

The 3D aspect of Abominable is enjoyable but it’s not wonderful. Sadly DreamWorks didn't place the same amount of care into this movie as they did in the How to Train your Dragon film franchise and it shows. The character designs are great, but the animation looks like a TV show. The 3D is effective, with several noteworthy scenes. One scene where the character of Yi is holding her violin really pops in 3D. Another scene with the blueberry tsunami looks especially strong in 3D. Finally the sequence with the northern lights looks spectacular in 3D. The 3D definitely has it moments but the subpar animation hamper this visual experience. Overall the 3D is very nice but it could have been better.

Final Verdict:Good 3D

Movie

Abominable is the third 3D animated Bigfoot/Yeti movie released in the last 12 months! It's charming, but it’s also the weakest of the three Bigfoot/Yeti films. FYI the other two Bigfoot/Yeti movies are Small Foot by Warner Brothers and Missing Link from Laika.

Abominable is the story of Yi (Chloe Bennet), a young woman living in "The City" (Hong Kong). This movie shows a unique side of Hong Kong, that you rarely see in American movies. Yi is dealing with a personal tragedy and has dreams of traveling. Yi finds an injured Bigfoot (which is later named Everest) and with the help of her friends, Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) and Peng (Albert Tsai) they decide to return the Bigfoot to its home on Mt. Everest. Burnish (Eddie Izzard) and Dr. Zara (Sarah Paulson) are the main villains in this movie and they are the people who originally captured Everest. The movie has great character designs and great voice actors. Your typical animated antics occur in this movie. The film has a huge plot twist that comes totally out of the left field. I will not spoil this unexpected plot twist but I will say that it works very well in this movie. The film likes to do reoccurring gags, some of which eventually pay off in the end credits. Speaking of the end credits the runtime for this movie is 97 minutes long, but it feels like 3 hours long. The pacing is painfully slow in this movie. There are a few slapstick gags here and there to break things up, but this film could have used a more meaningful plot and less exposition. Abominable is a very good movie.

In closing Abominable is a heartfelt and delightful film. The story is enjoyable but it drags. The character models look great but the animation is weak. Abominable is the kind of movie that children will love, and adults can endure.

Final Verdict: 7/10

Missing Link 3D Movie Review

Missing Link

3D Movie Review

Written By: Jake Jarvis

3D

Missing Link features top notch animation and fantastic 3D visuals. The 3D is organically featured throughout this film. The film has many great examples of pop-out 3D. The film starts strong with a excellent sequence with a aquatic monster. How the film used rope, fog and 3D in this scene is dazzling. It is difficult to explain this scene without spoilers but rest assured it is a very fun scene in 3D. The film is also filled with scenes with 3D depth. Missing Link is well worth the expense of seeing in it 3D .

Final Verdict: Great 3D

Movie

Missing Link is Laika Studio first actual animated comedy. This feels more like a Aardman Studios film (Wallace & Gromit) rather than a Laika films

Missing Link is the story of Sir Lionel Frost who is out to discover the legendary beast big foot. This wacky adventure leads to many unexpected developments. Sir Frost finds and makes many friends during this globetrotting journey.

Humor is a big aspect of this movie. The humor runs the range of slapstick, gross-out humor and situation comedy. The only thing missing was a few musical numbers performed by various characters throughout the animated feature. You will chuckle throughout the film, and laugh out loud several times. This movie is funny for both children and adults. The movie felt like Around the World in 80 Days but with Wallace & Gromit. Unfortunately, the plot, story, and characterization suffer. Much of it exists only to service the jokes.

The visuals in this film are diverse and varied . The character designs are kinda weak, especially some of the animals. However the human character costuming is amazing. Susan's (The Big Foot) fur appears more like autumn leaves than animal fur. Overall the stop motion animation is exquisite and it looks fabulous on screen.

This film has outstanding voice acting. Timothy Olyphant as Willard Stenk, Zoe Saldana as Adelina Fortnight and Zach Galifianakis as Susan (The Bigfoot) were real stand outs.  Hugh Jackman as Sir Lionel Frost and Stephan Fry as Lord Piggot-Dunceby didn't slack in their performances either.

Missing Link is a delightful animated movie.

Final Verdict: 8 / 10
