3D

Simply put Jungle Cruise is gorgeous in 3D. Disney really delivers and this film has many noteworthy pop outs and depth based 3D effects. The few scenes with waterfalls really make good use of 3D depth. The movie begins with a cold open panning view of the amazon and it looks spectacular in 3D. Many times CGI snakes would pop out of the screen in fun manner. The 3D really complements the visuals and makes for a more compelling visual narrative. Many times I felt like I was in the lush jungle with the characters as I felt so engrossed into the visuals because of the wonderful 3D. Most of the movie is seen in a diorama sorta effect and it looks like you are looking through a widow into the movie. The 3D helps to establish the various shots and scenes. The 3D is not perfect as some darkly lit scenes look off because of the 3D. I do wish that it had a little more pop outs. Honestly you are doing yourself a disservice by watching this movie in 2D. The 3D really helped me enjoy this movie and I imagine that some of my enjoyment would be muted by watching Jungle Cruise in 2D. You need to watch Jungle Cruise in 3D.

Final Verdict:Great 3D

Movie

Jungle Cruise is Disney’s latest theme park ride turned into a feature length film. In some ways it resembles other adventure movies like Indiana Jones and the Tomb Raider movies, but in many ways it has its own style that makes it unique.

The story of Disney’s Jungle Cruise is fairly strait forward but is very engrossing. You follow Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) who travels to the Amazon in search for a tree that can magically cure any illness. Lily hires boat captain Frank (Dwayne Johnson) to help her navigate the amazon river. Lily isn’t the only person who is searching for this magical tree. This magical tree is also known to curse people who dare search for it. You will have to watch the movie to learn what happens to Lily and Frank during this adventure down the amazon river.

Jungle Cruise is a joy to watch. This movie is pure escapist fun. I loved the back and forth between Lily and Frank. Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson have a real chemistry on screen and their banter is well written and it feels natural. This movie was perfectly cast and I love all the main characters. I loved the cornball sense of humor that this movie has. The various action scenes are thrilling and are well executed. The visuals are well done and rarely did I question any of the special effects. I have very few if any complaints. I suppose that some of the lore could have been better explained. I do feel like this movie has some minor plot holes. The movie has no depth to it. Any issues that I have with this movie are extremely minor and overall I found myself extremely entertained and not caring about any of its flaws. Jungle Cruise is a delightful movie.

Jungle Cruise is a charming and goofy movie that I loved. It’s so rare that you can find a family friendly adventure movie that is this good. When the movie ended I had a huge smile on my face. I haven’t felt this happy in the theaters in a long time. Jungle Cruise is live action Disney at its best.

Final Verdict: 10/10
